Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Umeå, County

Dr. Grankvist was born in the northern part of Sweden (Swedish Lapland). He studied molecular biology and attended medical school at Umeå university, 300 km south from where he was born. He received his PhD at the department of Virology, Umeå university. As a senior gynecologist, his present position is Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Umeå, County of Västerbotten. Dr. Grankvist is also a reservist Major in the Swedish army.

His interest in developing bedside manner started during his fifth year of medical school when he interviewed the GTAs about their motives for participation. The result of his study convinced him that more work had to be done in order to improve the quality, as well as the ethical aspects, of this specific teaching moment.
